The Patient Gardener

RE: The Naming of Things... (1 Reply) The Patient Gardener - 06/24/1998 - 09:14:49 P

I was lurking around the boards one time and saw some rather scurrilous posts. These were far more inflammatory than my recent fall from grace. It upset me and the garden analogy came to mind. I was thinking how soon Spring would be here and I would be able to work in the garden. And that led to my adopting the name of Pat Gardener. I still believe that all points of view should be welcomed and that everyone has something important to say. And I am still dismayed when people trounce others at the site or ignore them altogether.

And I really do garden. I also do not use chemicals, but hand weed when the weeds threaten to overtake the whole place.

That's exactly what your name makes me think of -- someone patiently tending to living things, whether plants or people.

I also derive a lot of pleasure from working in my garden. There's just something about being so literally close to the earth, with your hands in the soil, that soothes even a troubled heart.
