Trurl is the name of a self-absorbed, occasionally brilliant, definitely quixotic, and frequently confused robot invented by my hero, Stanislaw Lem. Trurl likes to refer to itself as "Trurl the Magnificent" and "Trurl the Constructor." It has an arch-enemy, which it is always trying to outsmart -- the relationship is remarkably similar to Wily Coyote and the Road Runner.

Lem is my hero because he writes science fiction with humor, and lord knows we all need more of that.

I have been exposed to so many authors by frequenting these forums that I may never have stumbled upon otherwise.

Stanislaw Lem has been added to my reading list -- it's growing unmanageably long!

I always thought of the two of them as more like Popeye and Bluto: sometimes enemies, sometimes friends, always rivals.

Gotta love that "Cyberiad"!
