March 30, 2003
Dear Richard, Recently, you must have heard a new disease called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). It is a fatal disease and so far, there is no effective medicine to cure or prevent it from spreading. In the world, there are around 1500 people infected and 58 died, 4 of them died in the Greater Toronto area. York Central Hospital and Grace Hospital were closed due to that the disease was found spreading inside the hospitals. Richard, it is important to take a very cautious measure to ensure your personal hygiene. You must follow the rules below: 1. Never touch your eyes, nose or mouth before washing your hands. 2. Lather your hands thoroughly for at least 1 minute before rinse. 3. Leave a distance of at least 3 feet when you talk to someone. 4. Never share food or drink with anyone. 5. Never put things other than food in your mouth. 6. Drink a lot of water; get enough sleep and rest to raise your immune system. I hope that you can protect your own body and health while you enjoy learning at school. With love, Dad |
