September 22, 2002 Dear Richard, In a village of the Northern China, there was a person named Zhou Chu (©P³B). He was strong and huge. He liked to bully the poor and get advantages from them. A lot of people were frightened of him. One day, Zhou Chu went to the market. He overheard a conversation of two men. 'Why do you want to move out?' one of the men asked sadly. 'Ah! It is really not a safe place to live any more. First, we have a tiger in the hill. It comes out at night to kill people and animals. Then, a monster at the sea attacks our boats and fishermen. Now, Zhou Chu bullies the poor and robs our village. If these three problems stay, our village will not have any hope.' Zhou Chu was very shocked by what he heard. He wasn't aware of that his bad conduct had seriously damaged the safety of the village. He was very ashamed of himself and determined to correct his mistakes. He went to the hill to kill the tiger and the sea to get rid of the monster. Most important, he bravely gave apologies to people that he had hurt and shared his wealth with the poor. Richard, one needs a lot of courage to face one's mistake and make corrections. Sometimes, we do make mistakes without our awareness. However, if people point them out to you, you should be brave enough to listen and try your best to correct. Ignoring mistakes or getting emotion are not the solutions. With love, Dad |
