Hormones and Me

Been quite awhile since I’ve added anything to my page so here’s an update.

When I first came out I said I didn’t know how far I would go till I found happiness. Well after much soul searching and research I decided to start HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy).

Two things, big roadblocks, were in front of me, my weight and my smoking. Back in march a T-girl gave me a tip, start with esterfem patches. I put a patch on every 3 1/2 days, quit the smokes cold turkey, and every time I wanted to smoke touch that patch and think of how bad you want HRT. It was hard for me to believe how easy it was to quit.

Step 2 was to see an Endocrinologist that was transgendered (TG) informed. Again a T-girl helped me out and referred me to her Endocrinologist. I stopped smoking March 30th; saw the Endocrinologist on April the 5th. I told her my story how I quit smoking and that I was using the patch. She wasn’t happy with my situation and wanted me to see a therapist at least once and to diet. She didn’t mind the weight gain from quitting smoking but did want me to lose it. Got a check up and a blood test. May 1st I went back to the doctor. She said my blood test was super which was a surprise and she put me on 2.5 premarin twice a day and 50 mg spiro once a day.

Well another week I’ll be on HRT for 2 months plus so now I’ll tell you about the changes. 1st thing was my skin got so soft. Smoking, what was that? That’s history. Moodiness yes, but not too bad. Crying spells no. Appetite -- big problem, want to eat all day. Breast growth yes, some nipples are much bigger and tender.

My thoughts on starting HRT, read everything you can get your hands on, ask questions, join online support groups, etc… Then if you think hormones are for you, go for it. Some of you may need to see a therapist, remember now I don’t have the family and job issues that most of you have, and whatever you do please do it with a Endocrinologist help. Bye for now and hugs to all.
