From Preface (1977) by Charles Hardwick

...     Peirce did acquire a disciple in C. K. Ogden, who, while a student at Cambridge, was a protege of Lady Welby.42 Ogden was enough impressed by Peirce's work to include a long excerpt from Peirce's correspondence with Lady Welby in the appendix of The Meaning of Meaning, a book he coauthored with I. A. Richards. These excerpts, along with a discussion of Peirce's "Prolegomena to an Apology for Pragmaticism," constitute one of the first serious considerations of Peirce's work . . (etc).

The British philosopher who was evidently most interested in Peirce's theory of signs at the time was F.P. Ramsey. Whether Ramsey knew of the letters to Lady Welby or whether he knew Ogden is not known. But it is apparent that he was very much interested in Peirce's theory of signs, and he incorporated it in his own logical works. When Ramsey reviewed Ogden and Richards' The Meaning of Meaning for Mind he noted that the "excellent appendix on C.S. Peirce deserves special mention."43

It is interesting to speculate about how much influence Ramsey may have had on Wittgenstein with regard to Ramsey's own interest in Peirce. He mentions Peirce's distinction between token and type, and acknowledges Peirce's writing in his review of the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. Ramsey was one of Wittgenstein's closest friends and was instrumental in getting him to return to England.   (Etc.)
