Bond was secured on 5 August 1856.

Married by Rev. H. B. Cunningham, DD who was pastor of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church from 1843 to 1858.

A wedding announcement appeared in "The Mecklenburg Democrat" on August 19, 1856 and referred to Mr. Jas. F. Hipp and Miss Margaret A. Cathey, married by Rev. H. B. Cunningham D. D., at Paw Creek.

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we James Franklin Hipp and Eli H. McCoy in the State aforesaid, are held and firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina, in the just and full sum of One Thousand Dollars, current money of the State, to be paid to the said State. To the which payment well and truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 5 day of Aug Anno Domini 1856
The Condition of the above Obligation is such, That, whereas the above bounden James F. Hipp hath made application for a License for a Marriage, to be celebrated between him and Margaret A Cathey of the county aforesaid. Now in case it shall not appear hereafter that there is any lawful cause to obstruct the said Marriage, then the above obligation to be void - otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
