Notes for Martha C. Fisher

Obituary from "The Gastonia Gazette," Friday, 21 June 1918:
MRS. MARTHA C. JOY
Mrs. Martha C. Joy, who has been in feeble health for about 18 months, died almost suddenly Sunday morning about 9 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. O. Grist at Lenoir, with whom she had made her home for the past four years. The funeral services were held from the home by her pastor, Rev. D. M. Litaker, Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock and the interment was in Belleview cemetery.
The deceased was the widow of the late James A. Joy, formerly of Mt. Holly. She had been a life-long member of the Methodist church and her home was always a stopping place for the Methodist circuit riders, when they would be in the neighborhood of her home. At the time of her death she was in her 70th year. She is survived by five daughters and four sons as follows: Mrs. Emma Williams, McAdenville; Mrs. Virgie Williams, Bowling Green, S.C.; Jno. F. Joy, Lincolnton; Thomas A. Joy, Mount Holly; J. Harvey Joy, Kings Mountain; and H. Grady Joy, Carney's Point, N.J. She is also survived by two step sons, Messrs. William and Sidney Joy, of Lowell and Mount Holly; five brothers, Joseph A. Fisher of Lowell; R. L. Fisher and Jacob Fisher, of Arkansas; Thomas Fisher of Dallas, Tex., and J. K. Fisher, of Hickory.
