Notes for Laura Susan Patterson

In 1900, Laura was the mother of ten children, with eight living.

Letter from Lillian Cust Joy, wife of O. F. Joy, written to Donna Joy Johnson on August 12, 1996, with regard to Patterson family history:

Donna,
It sure is nice of you to be doing all this. And it is so very interesting to look back over the names and recall Grandma Joy [[Iva Roseman Joy]] mentioning these different people.
Before you were born, your mom & dad [[Jean and Florine "Kitter" Love Joy]] had a Plymouth Coupe, and they took O. F. and me and Martha Anne (Dubarry) to the Patterson reunion in Hiddenite, Alexander County. I think Grandma went. I guess Ruth [[Ruth Joy Weaver]] took her. I remember there was a spring on the property and they had a wire with a pulley and bucket on it attached to the back porch, and they would let that bucket slide down to the little valley where the spring was, and it would fill up in that spring and they would pull it back up to the back porch for use. I'm trying my best to remember the elderly lady who lived there. I think she was Grandma's cousin. If I think of it I'll write back to you. Ask Jean & Kitter it they remember that trip. Jean was ticked at O. F. 'cause as usual he found someone with a jar of white lightning. HA! Are you & Harry coming to Ocean Isle this year? I hope you come and see us. Tell your Mom & Dad to come and spend a weekend with us.
Bye for now. Jesus loves you and so do I.
Aunt Lil
