The 1860 Federal Census of North Carolina gives the place of birth as South Carolina for Robert Hipp and daughters Mary and Melissa. Younger children are noted as born in North Carolina in the 1850 census. The 1850 and 1870 census gives the place of birth for Robert Hipp as North Carolina.

Total value of estate was about $200. Heirs were James F. Hipp, William P. Hipp, Alexander Robinson and wife Margaret, Sickey Bryant and wife Amelia, Mary Hipp, Sarah M. Hipp, heirs of Harriet Johnston dec., and heirs of Lila King dec. All of full age except heirs of Lila King. Final settlement 10 July 1873.
Sales of estate dated 2 Nov 1871...Hipps buying included Mary, James, W.P., and J.F. Hipp. William P. Hipp mentioned.
