Death notice from "The Charlotte News," Tuesday, March 8, 1955:
A. M. Poteat
Avery M. Poteat, 49, of Kirkwood, Mo., a native of Mecklenburg
County, died Sunday following a hear attack in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born July 7, 1905, son of Mrs. Mary Orr Poteat and the late
Edward J. Poteat. He was an employee of Talman McCleskey Asbestos Co. in
Kirkwood.
Surviving are his mother; two sisters, Mrs. F. A. Love and Mrs.
Ethel Williams of Charlotte; and four brothers, Preston M. Poteat of
Tyler, Texas, Lucius Poteat of Black Mountain, Brooks M. Poteat of Spray,
and Sgt. Parks H. Poteat with the U. S. Air Force at Geneva, N.Y.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete early this afternoon. The body
is scheduled to arrive at McEwen Funeral Home at 8:40 a.m. tomorrow.

A. M. Poteat
Funeral services for A. M. Poteat, 49, of Kirkwood, Mo., a native of
Mecklenburg County, who died Sunday in St. Louis, Mo., will he held at 2
p.m. tomorrow at McEwen West Chapel. The Rev. A. G. Lackey, pastor of
Hoskins Avenue Methodist Church, will officiate, and burial will be in
Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eugene A. Love, G. M. [sic]
Joy, Van Cox, Ebb Cox, Marion Cline, and Lucious Love.
