CHARLOTTE OBSERVER AUGUST 23, 1914 MR. W.P. HIPP, OF PAW CREEK, DIED LAST THURSDAY, CONFEDERATE VETERAN Mr. W.P. Hipp, a prominent citizen of Paw Creek, a devoted member of the Presbyterian church, his membership being at Paw Creek Church, and a brave Confederate Veteran, died Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Presbyterian hospital. His wife and children were at his bedside. He was in his 77th year and was a consistent member of Paw Creek Church. He was a good husband and a good citizen. He had a good host of friends who mourn his death. He was buried at Paw Creek graveyard beside his first wife, who died 5 years ago. Mr. Hipp had been a sufferer for two years. For four weeks before his death he suffered intensely, but he was patient and heroic, never murmuring. He was a brave soldier, and good man, and his community will miss him. He is survived by his second wife, who lives at Thomasboro in their new home which they had lived since selling the old home place in Paw Creek, near Rhynes old mill. Mr. Hipp is also survived by one son, Charles Hipp and three daughters, Mrs. Charles Robinson, Mrs. A.F. Cathey, Mrs. Burt Cathey, all of whom reside near Charlotte, except Mrs. Cathey who lives in Norfolk, Va.
