Query posted by Mary Moser Beddingfield Sat May 17 05:13:51 1997 on Alexander County GenWeb:
Found in Landmark, Statesville, NC paper: Alexander Roseman, aged about 75 years, died December 1895 near Hiddenite, Alexander County. He was buried at Old Salem Cemetery. Barbara A. Roseman, aged 64, died January 22, 1902, Hiddenite, Alexander County, NC at the home of Jack Bowers. Wife of the late Alexander Roseman. Buried at cemetery in Taylorsville. Was this Alexander Roseman the son of George and Catherine Roseman of Iredell County? What was Barbara's maiden name? Were they divorced? An Alexander Roseman married Mertie Sloope in 1885 (Alexander County marriage record which gave parents as George and Catherine Roseman)

"Barbara A. Roseman, wife of the late Alexander Roseman, died 22 Jan 1902 in Hiddenite at the home of Jack Bowers." This information supposedly came from an obituary in the Statesville Landmark. Some researchers have suggested she was Betsy Ann Lazenby. I have found this improbable after finding the following in the 1900 census:
Sharpe Township, Alexander Co., NC, ED 5 Sheet 6, page 74A
Line 41; Bowers, Andrew J.; head; May 1875; age 25; married 7 years; NC NC NC
Line 42; Lillie I.; wife; Aug 1868; age 31; married 7 years; 4 born 1 living; NC NC NC
Line 43; Mary B.; daughter; May 1899; age 1; NC NC NC
Line 44; Roseman, B. A.; aunt; Oct 1837; age 62; widow; NC NC NC (no listing under children born or living)
Since Mertie Sloop was born about 1837, she may be the same person as Barbara A. Roseman.
