Notes for Quintus Curtis Patterson

Quintus Curtis Patterson and his wife Dovie P. Clary lived in Hiddenite, Alexander County, North Carolina on the land that she inherited from her father. Their home stood behind the Bryan Matlock home.
Curtis enlisted in the Confederate Army in Alexander County on May 19, 1862 at the age of 34 years, with a wife and five children. He was accounted for until April 1863 when he reported on duty as a teamster during May 1863 -- October 1864. He deserted to the enemy on or about May 6, 1865. He was confined for an unknown length of time after May 10, 1865 at Washington, DC. When released, he took the Oath of Allegiance and returned home to his family.
Quintus Curtis Patterson was a committeeman of Sulphur Springs School as of September 7, 1885, and of Hiddenite High School when it opened September 5, 1892. He was postmaster of the Hiddenite Post Office from February 10, 1888 when it was formed, until February 20, 1889, and again from January 25, 1890 until April 11, 1891.
