Notes for Elisha Miles Poteet

Linda Green, researcher has been told that Elisha M. Poteet was stabbed
to death by a member of the Brittain family.

"According to family tradition, Elisha was stabbed to death by a
Brittain around Morganton during or soon after the Civil War. Susan has
not been located after that.
Gertie Bryan Turner of Minden, LA, said that her great grandparents
were Lish and Susie Mitchell Poteet. According to census records, Susan
was born about 1823 or 1824.
An Elijah Poteet was taxed in Mumford Cove District, McDowell Co.,
NC, in 1842 and 1843 with holdings of 216 acres." [Informant: Dan W.
