Notes for Joseph T. Love

Joseph T. Love is recorded in the Mecklenburg County census in 1850,
1860, 1870 and 1880. His wife was Eliza Jane Auten. He was a farmer by
occupation, but may have worked in a textile mill later in his life. He
died in the Mountain Island community in the River Bend township of
Gaston County in 1899. A large textile mill was in operation there, and
many residents of the surrounding area found employment at the mill and
relocated to the mill town.
Nephew Junius W. Auten was enumerated in the household of Joseph T.
Love in 1870. His occupation was given as farm hand. He was sixteen
years old.
In the 1880 census, Oney M. Love was enumerated in the household of
Joseph T. Love. She was listed as his grand daughter, and her age was
given as 2. Joseph's daughter Nancy, age 21, and son Charles, age 17,
were the only children residing in the home at the time, all other
children having married. When Oney married Moses Raborn in 1895, J. T.
Love gave written consent because she was underage.
