Obituary from "The Charlotte Observer," Tuesday, December 24, 1918:
MISS JENNIE ORR DIES AT AGE OF 78 YEARS
Miss Jennie Orr, one of the Derita section's beloved women, died at the Charlotte sanitorium last night at 7:30 o'clock at the age of 78 years. Old age was the principal cause of her death. She was born and reared in that section of Mecklenburg county and spent her life there, making her home for many years with the only surviving member of her family, a brother, Bright Orr. Her father, Silas Orr, was one of the leading men of Mecklenburg county in civil war and reconstruction days.
The funeral will be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Sugar Creek Presbyterian church, of which Miss Orr was a member for many years. Interment will be in the graveyard at the church. The services will be conducted by Mr. McCalla, the pastor.
