Notes for Thomas T. Love

Thomas Love was listed in the Mecklenburg County census in 1840 and
1860. I have not found him in 1850. He may have been in Gaston County
at that time. He was by profession, a miller. It appears that he was
married twice. It also appears that he may have fathered a child who was
described as mulatto in the 1860 census.
On 08 Mar 1836, Thomas Love took out a bond to marry Elizabeth
Rawdon, as her name is spelled in the Index to North Carolina Marriage
Bonds. She was probably Elizabeth Rodden, that being a common surname in
western Meckenburg County. The bondsman was Andrew B. Dunn.
In 1840, Thomas Love was listed in the same list of taxables as John
S. Love and James M. Love. All appear to be recently married with young
families.
It appears that Elizabeth Rodden was dead before 1850. Listed in
the household of Thomas Rodden, age 48, a miller, was David Love, age 10.
There is a marriage record for Hannah Love and Andrew Berryhill, who
took out a bond on 12 Jan 1858 in Mecklenburg County. They were married
on 14 Jan 1858 by Jos. C. Nicholson, Justice of the Peace. In the 1860
census, Andrew Berryhill and wife Hannah are enumerated in the family
preceeeding Thomas Rodden. Andrew is employed as a miller. It is
probable that Hannah his wife is Hannah Love, and she may be the daughter
of Thomas Love and Elizabeth Rodden. In 1840, two young females were
enumerated in the household of Thomas Love, and Hannah is of age to be
one of them. Further research is needed.
There is a record of a marriage between Thomas Love and Martha
Cornelia Kerr on 28 Dec 1853 in Mecklenburg County. The ceremony was
performed by Alex Cooper, J.P. Thomas and Cornelia appear in the 1860
census. It appears that Thomas died before 1870, when Martha appears in
the census with children. She also appears in 1880 in Mecklenburg County.
The District 10 (Paw Creek) school ledgers for September, October
and November 1863 include the name of Thomas Love, parent. His
occupation is listed as miller. Enrolled in the school are John W. Love,
age 9 and Mary E. Love, age 6. On September 21, 1863, teacher Andrew J.
Hunter includes in his notes that Mr. Love visited the school that
morning, bringing his children to school.

Listed in the Family records of Jane Love and her husband Moses Kistler
is Adeline Love. She is included after the entry for Thomas T. Love who
died December 9, 1866. Adeline Love died December 19, 1866. I do not
know the identity of Adeline Love. She may be the 18 year old Adaline
Love listed in 1860 with Margaret Hipp, in Gaston County. She may be a
child of Thomas T. Love. She may be an unidentified daughter included in
the 1840 census. Further research is needed.
