Notes for John Lemmond

If John Lemmond was born in 1747, the probable location of his birth is Pennsylvania, since William Marr Lemmond is believed to have come to Rowan Co., NC from Pennsylvania in 1750.

John Lemmond lived and died on his 237 acre homestead between the North fork and South fork of Crooked Creek in Goose Creek Township, Union County, North Carolina. The homestead was just west of the Rocky River Road. In 1900, Edmond Ritch purchased the land from Robert Lemmond, son of John Lemmond. [Ronald M. Lemmond, research, (1 May 1998).]

John Lemmond may have had one female and two male children who are not listed, who died before 1800. Reference the 1790 Census of Mecklenburg County, NC. [Ronald M. Lemmond, research, (1 May 1998)]

Will of John Lemond, Book B, Mecklenburg Co., NC, #140, Page 34:

19 July 1806, probated July 1806. Being in a low state of body, I give to my wife Martha Lemond, during her widowhood, my mare, the use of my dwelling house, all household and kitchen furniture, and maintenance from my estate. I give her completely half of my hogs, the property she owned at the time of our marriage, and two sheep.
I give to my eldest daughter Elizabeth Lemond a mare with saddle and bridle, a cow, and a feather bed and furniture; to my oldest son John Lemond a horse with saddle and bridle, my rifle gun and accoutrements, a cow, my big coat, part of my wearing apparel, and a gang of hogs he claims as his own; to my second eldest son William Thomas Lemond a horse with saddle and bridle, and a gang of hogs he claims; to my youngest son Robert my mare with saddle and bridle and a gang of hogs he claims as his own; and to my youngest daughter Eleanor a horse worth $60 with saddle and bridle, a feather bed and furniture, a cow, and all the clothes that belonged to her mother.
It is my will that negro Aaron be hired out for a term of four years and the money arising is to be divided equally among my wife and children, and at the end of that time he is to be sold and his price divided in the same way. A sufficient part of my estate is to be sold to pay my debts, but the remainder is to be kept together for the support of my family until the youngest daughter comes of age and then is to be sold and divided as above. My land is to be equally divided among my three sons and the division is to be made so that my son Robert's share contains my house and outbuildings. Executors: Trusty friends James B. Porter and James Orr.
Witnesses: Archibald Walker and John Stansill.
