Notes for John Bushart

[Robert E. Burke, Bushart Branches - the Descendants of Jacob Bushart, Sr. and Ann Fulenwider, (personal home page, 11 Mar 1998), "Electronic."]:
"John Bushart first appears in North Carolina records in 1763, when he swore loyalty to the King of
Great Britain at the courthouse in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina, along with several other German men. In 1766, John Bushart was given land grants for land he had already been farming. Like most people in the area, John had started farming a piece of land before the colonial government could catch up and actually grant the land to them. John may have been in North Carolina since the mid-1750s, or earlier. He probably came to North Carolina from Pennsylvania, like most other German immigrants to the area. John was married at least twice, and probably three times. The similarity in his daughter's names may be an indication that they had different mothers. John died in 1795 and his funeral was preached by Pastor Storch. Jacob Bushart, Sr. was John's only known son.
John left a will, which is mentioned in Cabarrus County court records, but was lost in a court house fire in the 1800s. John's widow, Ann, died about 1807."

"From the account book of Pastor Storch, in German:
Marz 12, 1795 begraben D. alte Boshart. Luc 2.29 Herr nun lasses Du....
Translates as:
12 March 1795 buried the old man Bushart. Luke 2:29....
Luke 2:29 King James Bible - 'Lord, now lettest thou thy faithful servant depart this life in peace, according to thy word.'
Pastor Storch was a circuit pastor, preaching at several churches. He kept a diary in German of the people he buried along with the verse he preached the funeral from."
