Ferguson, Murdo
Born in Scotland (?) during 1756. Emigrated to America in 1803. A farmer in Moore County, NC, with a wife and eight children in 1812. Source: British Aliens in U.S. During War of 1812 (Baltimore, 1979) [David Dobson, Scots in the Carolinas - 1680-1830, Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1986)

Murdoch Ferguson and his wife, Mary McDonald, married in Scotland and emigrated about 1802. They settled about two miles south of the present town of Cameron in Moore County, North Carolina, on the Carlton Matthews homeplace. The McDonald cemetery where they are buried is between Cameron and Vass. [Douglas F. Kelly with Caroline Switzer Kelly, Carolina Scots, (1739 Publications, Dillon, SC, 1998), 235]

"A second Ferguson family which settled in Moore County was that of John Ferguson. Whether or how he was related to Murdoch Ferguson, we do not know at present, although according to Janet Neuville (in MacDonald Family History, privately printed before 1993), these two families may have emigrated together. Both had land grants joining John MacDonald on Crain's Creek. John (son of Norman McDonald) is said to have been related to Murdoch Ferguson's wife, Mary MacDonald Ferguson (according to Neuville).
