Notes for John Alexander Anders, III

Obituary, taken from "Bladen County North Carolina Vital Records 1753-1915," compiled by Charles F. McKee, 2162 Regent Court, Gastonia, North Carolina, 28054; copyright 1995; p. 27:
May 15, 1850
Died in Bladen Co., Mr. John Anders, after a lingering illness of 6 months. He left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. He was upwards of 30 years a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church.
(Capt. John Anders' wife was Ann, daughter of William Cromartie, Sr.)

By the name of God "Amen", I John Andrews being in a low state of health but being of sound mind and memory blessed be God for the same do think proper to publish and make this my last will and testiment in the following manner to wit:
I give and grant all my lands to my sons William W. and Patrick S, the shall begin a dividing line at my upper corner at the River adjoining Pridgens. thence with Pridgens line to my back line their with said line to the Mill road thence up the last east edge of the Mill Pond two chains. William to have all of my lands North of the above designated liens and east of Mill Pond and Patrick to have all of my lands lying in New Hanover County on South River.
I give to my daughter Ann C. my girl Maria,
I give to my son William my man Jack,
I give to my dauhter Hannah J a boy Quince
I give to my Elizabeth Tom and Leah
I give to my daughter Mary, a girl Lizette
I give to my son Patraick a girl Nancy also I give him one Black Mare also one bed and furniture
All the balance of my household furniture to be equally divided between my heirs.
I give to my son Patrick two hundred bushels of corn. Also I give him two thousand pounds of bacon also I give him one set of Blacksmith tools and six head of cattle, the balance of my stock of cattle to be equally divided between my heirs.
I give to my two sons William and Patrick one Laz Carrriage.
I give to my son Patrick one half of my farming utensils, the other half to be equally divided between my heirs.
I give to my grand daughter Mary E. Johnson four head of sheep.
I give to my grand daughter Sarah A. Johnson one slabby
I do hereby obtain nominate and appoint my two sons William W. Andrews and Patrick S. Andrews executors to this my last Will and Testament.
In witness thereof I do herewith set my hand and did this 8th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty.

A locally published history of Leon County, Texas in 1893 quotes resident Patrick Lloyd Anders that his father John Anders served as a lieutenant and captain in the War of 1812. The War of 1812 Roster at the National Archives in Washington, DC lists a John Anders of Bladen County, North Carolina as a lieutenant. Patrick Lloyd also states his father John served on the Committee of Poor in North Carolina.
