Notes for Jessie Allen

In 1871, Jessie Allen was enumerated at a girls boarding school on Oxford Road in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Her sister Alice was at school with her.

In 1891, Jessie Smith nee Allen and her 3 year old daughter Daisy were enumerated in the home of her parents in Poole, Dorset. Her husband and other children were enumerated in Lancashire.

In 1901, Jessie Smith nee Allen and family resided in the civil parish of Walton-on-the-Hill, in Liverpool, Lancashire.

On 14 May 1904, on board the SS Etruria sailing from Liverpool, England, Jessie Smith age 50, married, arrived in New York. She was an English citizen, last residing in Walton, England. She did not have a ticket to her final destination in Claiborne, Virginia. Her husband paid her passage. She would visit her sister, Mrs. "Howard," at Athlone Farm, Claiborne, Amherst Co., Virginia. She had $50 cash in her possession. She was accompanied by Dorcas Pickard age 20 and an English citizen, a single teacher of London, England, who had $80 in her possession and whose passage was paid by her uncle. In August 1904, Jessie Smith aged 51, married, arrived in Liverpool, England from New York on board the Etruria of the Cunard Line. [Bronwen Ellis, research]
