OSCAR FRANKLIN JOY, SR
Oscar Franklin Joy, Sr., 76 of Route 6, Thrift Rd., passed away
Wednesday, April 15, 1959, in a local hospital. Mr. Joy was born March
7, 1883, in Gaston County, son of the late Sidney and Emma Joy. He lived
in Charlotte for the past 40 years and was a member of Paw Creek
Presbyterian Church. Before his retirement, he was a building
contractor. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Iva Roseman Joy; four
daughters, Mrs. Jarvis Midgett, Mrs. Robert Cox, Mrs. Robert Lamb and
Mrs. Eddie Reames Jr. of Charlotte; six sons, J. Frank, Jean M., Billy
A., Charles M., Donald E., and O. F. Joy, Jr. of Charlotte; two sisters,
Mrs. Mattie Abernathey (sic) of Belmont and Mrs. Lexie Fisher of
Charlotte, and 28 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 4
o'clock this afternoon from the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, by the
Rev. J. Edward Craig, his pastor. Interment will be in Forest Lawn
Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Paul McCord, Blair Cathey, Ralph
Wingate, Hugh Cherry, Morrison Yandle and Ross Summerville. Honorary
pallbearers will be P. W. Davenport, E. L. Reames, Sr., G. E. Todd, A. S.
Cathey, H. E. Lewis, Robert Summerville, J. R. Wingate, C. M. Saddler, E.
W. Campbell, Ted Campbell, Harvey Bassett, Scott Lowe, Blair Cox, and
Clarence Cox. The body will lie in state at the church from 3 until 4
P.M. today. Hankins-Whittington Funeral Directors are in charge of the
arrangements.
