Sid was a carpenter and cabinet maker. One of his cedar chests is said
to be in the possession of a member of the family, perhaps one of the
sons of Frank Joy, son of Oscar Joy.
Ruth Joy Weaver, grand-daughter of Sidney remembers that he came to live
with her family when he was old. She remembers that her mother Iva had a
hard time with him, and the family had to put him into the county home in
Crab Orchard Township in Mecklenburg County, where he was living when he
died.
From her childhood, Ruth remembers that her Grandfather Sid was cross
with her and her brothers and sisters, and kept a sharp eye out for any
misdeeds that they might commit. On one occasion, their mother Iva
allowed each of the children to bring a snowball into the house to eat.
Grandpa Sid snatched the snowballs away from the children and threw them
into the fire. Iva was very angry and "laid him out" for this.
Sid lived in a room that his son Oscar built that was attached to his
workshop and garage. The children were not allowed into the room by
their grandfather.

1890 Census - family of Sydney A. Joy of River Bend Township of Gaston
Co., NC appears in pages that survived fire that destroyed most of the
11th Census.

Question - did Sid marry a second time?
