Burial: Goshen Grove Cemetery, Gaston Co., NC

The census of 1880 states that the father of James Joy was born in South
Carolina, and the mother in North Carolina.

In 1880 - James A. Joy was head of a household that included his wife,
seven of his unmarried children ages 2 months to twenty years, his
father-in-law, one married son, daughter-in-law and grandchild, and a
boarder who was the mother of his daughter-in-law. The men were farmers,
although they indicated on the census that they had been out of work for
much of the year.

Epitaph on his marker in Goshen Grove Cemetery, Gaston Co., NC reads as
follows:
"Farewell my wife and children all. From you a father Christ doth call."
