1890 Census - family of William R. Joy of River Bend Township of Gaston
Co., NC appears in pages that survived fire that destroyed most of the
11th Census.

They lived near the home place of John B. Rankin in Hickory Grove, Gaston
County, North Carolina. When Margaret Rankin Moody died, Rebecca and
Will Joy inherited the John Rankin home place.

Family plot of Robert William Joy contains graves of Rebecca Moody Joy;
James Erastus and Flossie Rhyne Joy; Ruby Joy, who was the first to be
buried in the plot; Aleese Joy, Jesse Joy, Juanita Joy and Marvin Joy.
The plot is adjacent to the family plot of Jacob Rhyne, father of Flossie
Rhyne Joy.

Will made caskets and prepared bodies for burial in his community. He
was also an excellent cabinet maker. He played a musical instrument in a
band, and a granddaughter believes that it was the banjo.
