Nouakchott IT Mentors' Training

In collaboration with the Nissa Banque of El Mina, Peace Corps volunteer Vivian held a 9 day computer training at the Maison de la Femme of El Mina. Seventeen women mentors attended the training. The training totaled 27 hours--3 hours for 9 afternoons. Since ther were 13 Arabic speakers, they hired Arabic instructors, and Vivian trained the remaining four French participants.

The hours of instruction were divided as follows:

  • 8 hours-introduction to the keyboard and Windows
  • 8 hours- Word
  • 8 hours-Excel
  • 3 hours-Internet
The goal of the training was to give the participating Nissa Banque women an intensive course so that they can continue to teach themselves computer skills and mentor their daughters and other girls from the El Mina High School. A new mentoring program will beging in the following months with the graduates of this course now providing the computer training.
