Review by Bret Walker

It's been twenty years since Caddyshack hit the theaters, and it's still the funniest comedy I've ever seen. The cast is terrific: Bill Murray as the shell-shocked greenskeeper, Ted Knight as the arrogant Judge Smails, Chevy Chase as the whimsical Devil-may-care golf Zenmaster, and of course, the legendary Rodney Dangerfield as the eccentric playboy. The script is great, the acting is great, the music is great, the whole thing is a team of greats that make this a classic in American film. You may disagree, but I firmly believe it's the greatest comedy ever made.

Now, it's been a few years since I've seen Caddyshack in its entirety, uncut and unabridged. Watching it on commercial TV is lame. So this month, when HBO started showing it again, I made sure to watch it start to finish.

I still get deep belly-laughs watching this film! Every scene smacks of great comedy, both visual and cereberal. Every scene is legendary as well. Who can forget the Baby Ruth in the swimming pool? The bishop's game in the rain? The whole boat scene? Betting on the Smails boy to pick his nose?

Maybe it's been a while since you've seen Caddyshack, too. Or maybe you've never seen it. Either way, it's time. Caddyshack is a tremendous comedy with a lot of tremendous talent, a legendary film. Treat yourself and see it ASAP!

Trivia:

Brian Doyle-Murray, one of the writers and the actor who played Lou Loomis, is Bill Murray's older brother. In order to ensure that his success was his own and did not come from riding the coattails of his more famous brother, he took his Grandmother's maiden name (Doyle) to separate himself from Bill.

Bill and Brian, as did most of their siblings (they were among nine children), worked as caddies when they were younger. Bill's caddying days paid for his tuition to Loyola College.

Michael O'Keefe (Danny Noonan) appeared as Fred (Jackie's husband and the father of her son) on Roseanne from 1993 to 1996.
