Welcome to The Hangar!

This page will feature pictures of aircraft belonging to club members.  Each month one will be selected as 'PLANE OF THE MONTH' and will be featured in more depth.

Plane of the month

September's plane of the month belongs to club webmaster Patrick Deuser.

Note: I kinda cheated this month because this particular model was featured a while back.  Since then however, it has had quite a traumatic ride in the back of my truck and has been rebuilt to what you see here.

Here is the top view of my fazer.  the covering is for the most part ultracote black and neon green.  The plane will actually be getting some additional graphics when time permits.

Here is me holding up the fazer for the camera to show off the bottom.  I don't have any problems telling which side is up with this color scheme!

This particular Sig Fazer was purchased by Patrick at the Jayhawk Model Master Fly-in October of 1999.  The plane had been sold earlier in the day as a complete setup to a friend who bought it just for the radio.  Patrick got the airplane for a steal!  (10 bucks!)  and then later bought the engine that was on it at the time for another $40 dollars.  After installing his own radio and a different engine the plane finally flew again in late November.  The plane was trimmed for full throttle straight and level flight, but when the power was reduced to idle for landing the plane immediately began rolling to the right.  This was the result of a severely warped wing.  The plane sat in Patrick's  hangar untouched for several months before he decided one night to attempt to straighten the wing by twisting it the opposite direction and reshrinking the covering.  This was able to eliminate most of the warp and resulted in a plane that is an absolute blast to fly!   The Fazer's thick symmetrical wing and light wing loading combine to make this plane very maneuverable.  The huge ailerons cause the plane to become almost a blur when fully deflected for rolling maneuvers.  (thank God for exponential!)   The Fazer isnt a fast airplane, but it has plenty of power and nearly unlimited vertical is not a problem.  Throttled back the plane is a pussycat and will slow to a crawl for landing.  The kit new sells for about $60 dollars and is sure to provide its owner with loads of flying fun when finished.  Patrick highly reccomends this kit as a second or third airplane or for an easy to build, fun to fly, way to relax after work or on weekends.

NOTE: This model was all but destroyed when I had to slam on my brakes because somebody cut me off while driving home.   If I would have had the model and my flightbox secured in the bed of my truck, this never would have happened.   Lesson Learned <----THE HARD WAY!!!

The repaired fazer flys almost as nice as it did before.  It is now a little heavier, and a lot more tail heavy.  It is still a blast to fly and remains one of my favorites.
