Chapter 2
When Howie got to the courthouse the next morning, he was surprised to see Sarah’s parents were there, but Sarah wasn’t. Standing beside them was a teenage girl that looked like she didn’t want to be there. I guess that was the girl who Sarah claimed to be my daughter. I quietly sat down in the back of the room. Mr. & Mrs. Robins gave me angry glances. When we were called down, I waited for them to go down first.

“Who might you be,” the judge said referring to Mrs. Robins.
“I am Jessica Robins, Sarah’s mother, your honor. My daughter is very ill & could not be here today,”
“All right Mrs. Robins, What is the birth date of your granddaughter?”
“May 13, 1991, your honor.”
“And who is her father?”
“Mr. Dorough your honor.”
“Is this true Mr. Dorough?”
“I do not know your honor.”
“Well if the Defendant is not sure, I will schedule a DNA test for tomorrow morning, court is rescheduled for Saturday afternoon.”

Howie left the courtroom with a little bit of relief. He wouldn’t have to find out the truth for another couple of days. Sunny & Mr. & Mrs. Robins were following me out of the room. He tried to find his bodyguard in the main hallway. Howie felt someone grab my arm. He snapped his head around to see who it was. It was Mr. Robins.

“Mr. Dorough I need to talk to you,” he said.

Howie nodded my head.

“I know you are probably wondering why we are bringing you to court. So I wanted to explain things to you. According to my daughter you were her first, last, & only, so you are indeed Sunny’s father. We want you to take care of your daughter for a very important reason.”
“And what would that reason be.”
“Mr. Dorough my daughter has cancer & she is dying. My wife and I feel like we are getting to old to take care of a teenager & we want you to take care of Sunny. If you refuse then you will pay us child support.”

I was in shock, because I had never known about Sarah so I had to ask some questions.

“How long has she had it?”
