Chapter 2
“Hey mom, how was work,” I asked her.
“Boring like normal, Kevin,” she said, “The kids wouldn’t leave me alone & I had to persuade them to do something.”
“Look, Mom, D. came home & he looked really bad. I think one of the local gangs went after him again.”

My mom called D. & he came out of the room. He wouldn’t look at her. She lifted up his face to reveal his many cuts & his bruise. My mom cleaned him up quickly & gave him ice to put on his eye to help the swelling to go down. Rok & J. came home a few minutes later carrying their bags & a few books.

“Sup, Kev,” J. said as he juggled his biology & geometry books.
“Nothing much, I said.

Just then mom came into the room.

“You three stay out of the bedroom for a while,” she said, “Your brother has had a rough day & needs to sleep it off,”
“Mom can I talk to you,” I asked.
“Yes,” she answered.

We walked into her room & I sat on the bed.

“How is D. doing,” I asked.
“He is OK. They really beat him up so I am going to have him call in tomorrow & rest up. His cuts & bruises will eventually heal.”
“When do you think he will be doing a lot better,”
“In a week or so. It would have been longer if you hadn’t told me. You know how he gets”

I try my best to keep my family on track, but like I said before I wish it wasn’t so hard.
