| Chapter 6 |
| (J.’s View) Moms you love ‘em sometimes, but sometimes they get on your nerves. I hate homework & try to get out of it when I can, but it is hard to try & get past mom. She says that we need to finish school so we can help support our family with better jobs. I can’t wait till my schooling is over. I saw that Rok won the big game for the fourth week in a row. I could beat them all if I was allowed. I really don’t see how Rok & Nicky get their work done early. I finished my work walked into my room. D. was sleeping & Kev was throwing his football in the air. He used to live & breathe the sport when I was little. I guess dropping out made him lose his love for the game. I think he’ll find it again someday. He saw me come in. “Catch,” he said as he threw the ball. I caught in easily. I was athletic, but I enjoy Basketball. Rok & I play on the team at the school. We’re alternative centers on the team & we are popular at school, but no one knows we’re poor. I threw the ball back to my brother. “You have a good arm. Why don’t you try out for the football team?” “I don’t know if I’d be any good.” “I think you would make a good quarterback. If I still played I’d block for you.” “You’re my brother. You already watch my back against the B-ball players from the other schools. Besides I with my homework, B-ball is all I can handle right now.” “If that’s what you think…” he drifted off. We shared a smile & then D. tossed in his sleep. I climbed onto my bunk to think about what Kevin had told me, but I ended up falling into a deep, dreamless sleep. |
