We are a small hobby/show kennel in existence since 1985. We love bassets and breed and show them as a hobby. We do not breed to sell puppies for profit. Our dogs are part of our family and are treated as such. All of our dogs live in our house although they do have their own crate room. They also have access to two fenced in acres to roam. Basset heaven!!
As mentioned above, BlueBelle Bassets has its beginnings back in 1985. Well, on second thought, it really was in 1979. I purchased a basset puppy for Jan as a wedding present, fulfilling a wish that she had for many years prior. However, that didn't work out too well given that we were living in a small apartment at the time and that our landlord, who lived below us, wasn't too fond of Droopers barking, howling and destructive behavior. Needless to say, Drooper went to another home shortly thereafter and we learned our first lesson; bassets are not the ideal dog for an apartment.
After purchasing our first home in 1985, we immediately went out and acquired J&B's Help Me Rhonda. Rhonda was out of JEM Bassets (John & Elaine McDowell) and Beaureguarde Bassets (Fran Gray & Mary Bastable). Our intention was to only have a pet, but little did we know what we were getting into. With the urging of the McDowells and other Fort Dearborn Basset Hound Club members, we became active in the Club and began showing Rhonda in obedience. Later that same year we acquired Branscombe's Waltzing Matilda (Mattie) from Doc & Ruth Paule. Rhonda went on to get her Companion Dog title and Mattie went on to become a conformation Champion. From the point we were hooked. Rhonda and Mattie became our foundation bitches for all BlueBelle Bassets past and present.
We bred our first litter in early 1987 producing three puppies of which one went on to earn her Companion Dog title and another his conformation championship. We only breed when we intend on keeping a puppy for show. We are currently on the fifth generation of BlueBelle Bassets.
We are currently active in a number of clubs. We are life members of Fort Dearborn Basset Hound Club, having held most offices from President to Board of Directors. Brian is currently on the Board and Jan is Club Secretary. We are also members of the Basset Hound Club of America. Brian is also an AKC licensed judge approved to judge both Bassets and Beagles. |
