THE LACK SERIES is a photographic exhibition project on the human face, initiated in 1997. One aim with the project is, for instance, to demonstrate that it is possible to produce artificial faces photographically with a ‘soul’, depth and emotional manifestations. The title, Lack (lacquer = a varnish) has several different meanings, and the most relevant one to this project is the transparent quality of the face, i.e. to ”be able to look through a human being”, to unveil him in such a way as if the complexion was nothing but a detachable piece of fabric in front of the personality. Man’s emotional qualities (my whole artistry revolves round this matter) is a great part of the concept to the Lack project, but it is also on how emotionalism eventually could be linked to pure cerebral mechanisms. On such a level, the Lack project could also be compared to an experiment, i.e. if a viewer has the ability to trace and separate the artificial from the real identities presented in the project.
