How could such a thing happen!  Well...

If you’re wondering, I proposed to Peggy in Singapore on November 6th. She was on a business trip and I tagged along. There is a Night Safari there, where you ride a tram like at Universal Studios, and all the peaceful nocturnal wild animals come out and come right up to the tram, or else you can cruise past wild elephants and tigers and such stuff. It is all moonlit, and starlit and all very romantic (so says Ken). However, we got on to Row Number 13 of the train – and while I’m not that superstitious, I figured what the heck – and postponed popping the question until we got off for a brief stroll around the park – I was nervous enough anyways. Didn’t want to have to blame #13 for Peggy saying "no"!

Eventually, I found a somewhat secluded corner in the park next to all the wild animals and popped the question, etc. etc. No, I didn’t have flowers, or get down on my knees…I was winging it! Sorry to all the traditionalists out there. So, there you have it.

About the Invitation

INVITHM.jpg (14963 bytes)(click for full-size picture)

The character "Double Happiness" is commonly found in Chinese weddings. Typically depicted in gold on a red background, shuangxi, as it is pronounced in Mandarin Chinese, has been found on clothing, walls, cakes and other items in Chinese weddings for thousands of years. Shuangxi is also referred to as the "together forever" character.  In Cantonese, it is pronounced "Seung Hei". (Thanks Richard and Irene)

This neat looking thingie on the back represents the two families - the top right is "Chan", while the top left is "Lee", in older script.   The bottom right square contains "Leun", together with "Fan" at the bottom left - together which means something like "united in marriage"..
