Gift's From the Kitchen

The following recipes are great to give as gifts or keep for yourselves! A cross-stitched design used on the jar lid makes a wonderful, personalized gift. You can also insert a pretty piece of fabric and add a ribbon.

Hot Chocolate Mix
My kids love this!

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups non-dairy coffe creamer
  • 2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
Combine all ingredients and store in airtight containers. To serve, place 3 heaping tablespoons mix in a cup, and add 3/4 cup boiling water; mix well.

Mocha Mix
I like this in the afternoon. Even the kids like this and love to drink it if I let them!

  • 2 1/2 cups non-dairy creamer
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup instant coffee
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
Combine all ingredients and store in airtight containers. To serve, spoon about one-fourth of a cup into mug; fill with one cup boiling water. Mix well and enjoy!

Ever-Ready Daiquiris
This is really good. I like to make up a batch in the winter. I put it in an old ice cream container and keep it right on my deck!

  • 2 six-ounce cans frozen limeade
  • 2 six-ounce cans frozen lemonade
  • 2 forty-six ounce cans pineapple juice
  • 1 quart light rum
Combine all ingredients in a large container. Mix until slushy. Store in freezer. Mixture will never freeze completely. When ready to serve, you can add about half 7-up if you wish.

Honey Spice Spread
This tastes really good on English muffins

  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon orange peel (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl; blend well. Spoon into decorative containers and refridgerate.

Spice Cake In A Jar
This is the best cake I've ever tasted cooked in a jar. I gave these as gifts two years ago and got a lot of compliments!

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 2/3 cup nuts or raisins(optional)
Cream shortening and sugar; add applesauce, water and eggs, mix well. Mix dry ingredients in another bowl and add to first mixture. Add nuts(or raisins). Spray wide mouth pint jars with Pam and fill about 1/2 full. This will fill 6-8 jars. Bake at 325 degrees exactly 45 minutes. Remove jars one at a time and quickly screw the lid on each jar. When you use canning jar lids these cakes have a shelf life of one year.
