Friendly but Demanding

Story by Kyra

I am a member of a sorority in Bowling Green State University, Ohio. We lived in a sorority house that is haunted. According to the story, about 60 years ago, a girl who was a sister and lived in this house was driving through town and got hit by a train. Ever since that night, she has made her presence felt in the house.

In the mid-80s, a ghost hunter came to the campus for a series of talk. One of the girls, who lived in this house then, approached the ghost hunter and invited her over to have a look at it.

She took a careful look and made several observations about the house. She measured each and every window of the house and told the girls that one of the windows is 1/18 inch wider than the rest. Due to this factor, the house become accessible for ghosts to enter. She also told them the ghost's name is Amanda and she is friendly.

No doubt Amanda is friendly but she has made it clear that she will be remembered. Every year we have to put her blank photo on the composite picture. One year, we did not and she went around the house knocking every picture down.

On another occasion, she made is clear that we have to recognise and accept her presence and position in the house. As the sorority's symbol is the owl, we have, in our living room, a collection of stuffed owls. We were talking about Amanda and one of the sisters said she did not believe the stories. Immediately after she said that, every single stuffed owl flew up into the air and came down on that girl. She started to freak out and said, "Okay! Okay! I believe now!" All of the owls then rolled right back to their original position.

Many other eerie things have happened in the house, such as CD players suddenly turned itself on playing what we thought to be Amanda's favourite song, shelves flying out of the walls, doors closing or opening by itself and channels on the TV changing without anyone touching the remote.
