Haunted House in St Loius
By Maria Baker of the USA.
I don't know if this was a ghost or not, but from the stories I have read and the feelings that I had at that time, I believe it was.
I had rented an apartment on the third floor of a very nice building in the city near the park. Everything was fine for the first few months. The only person living with me was my two-year-old daughter. It was not a large apartment. It started with me feeling as though someone was behind me in the kitchen when I was washing the dishes. It could become so bad that I would end up leaving the kitchen, sometimes opening the door to my apartment and standing in the hall for a few minutes. Then I would go back in and everything would be fine. I also noticed that whenever I would lie down, turn the TV off and read or do something quiet at night I would hear a loud bang coming from the kitchen or dining room area. I would check it out and could find nothing had fallen or moved. I did not understand where the noise was coming from. It never happened when I had the TV on though.
Then things started to get worse. One day, when I left to go to work, I left the remote control on the table, where I always put it. I knew I put it there. When my daughter and I got home that evening, we could not find it anywhere. I turned the house upside down, looked in laundry, trash, under cushions, in drawers, everywhere! I did not find it that evening. When I got home the next day, it was sticking out from in between the chair cushion, in plain sight. Now I know for sure that I had looked through the cushions, as sometimes when I lose the remote there is where it will be. I know it was not there the night before. No one else had been in the house.
Then, one night I got up to use the bathroom. When I sat down I noticed that my toilet paper roll holder that connected to the wall was taken apart and stacked very neatly in an odd sort of way. It looked kind of like it would not stay that way without falling. My daughter was only two and did not have the strength to take this apart, much less the Manuel dexterity to stack it in that way. I thought this was odd and started to get nervous about my apartment.
The next time, I went in the bathroom in the middle of the night, I found the toothpaste cap removed and placed up in the small, slanted frame of the stained glass window. Not on the window sill, I had a small door in the middle of the stained glass window. The cap was in this frame. My daughter was not tall enough, even if she had stood on the toilet, to reach this window.
The last incident was when a friend of mine was over. He was standing in the dining area (connected to the kitchen). I was in the kitchen, too. The next thing I knew, he was asking me, "Why did you throw that at me?" in an annoyed tone of voice. I did not know what he was talking about. When I looked in there I saw a plastic ketchup bottle on the floor next to my friend. "I said what are you talking about?" Evidently, the ketchup bottle had flown off of the top of the refrigerator at him. I tried several times to knock the ketchup bottle off of the refrigerator, thinking that maybe I had knocked it off when I opened the fridge door. It fell straight down every time. I got scared and told my friend to take me and my daughter to his house to spend the night.
I had been telling him about this all along and he made fun of me. Now I think he believed me. He told whatever it was to go away and leave me alone. I moved to a downstairs apartment a couple of months later. I have had no more problems.
