ONLY A DREAM



We met in the meadow this summer night,
Just after the fiery sun had set.
We lovers danced in the fading light
To the lonely song of a cricket.

As the dusk gave way to the moon,
And the stars rose in the sky,
You held me gently close to you
And whispered you'd always be there
Until forever should end
Or our love grew as old as the wind.

But when the moon fled at dawn,
I opened my eyes to find you gone.
It hurt to believe you had lied.
For the barest moment, I cried.

Then suddenly I realized
That you were not real.
You were only a dream.
Had it not been for night's imagining,
You'd have never been
