Pennine Polocrosse Club Newsletter
August 2001

Hello again and welcome to the second newsletter of the season. As usual this will be a riveting read, full of interesting updates and information for everyone. Hopefully you’ll be able to tell I do actually learn things at uni, not just drink cheap wine!
Anyway, here goes…

INTER-REGIONALS

Firstly congratulations to all Pennine members who took part in this immensely successful tournament for the Northern Region.
Excellent performances were given by everyone, resulting in our region winning the Primary Junior, Junior and Open divisions, not to mention the overall points award!! Give me a P, give me an E….yeah, anyway, more awards came our way with Keith winning Best Number 1, and Chill getting Best Horse in the Open Division, Guy winning Best Number 2 and Penny winning Best Number 3.
Also in the Under-21s James won Best Number 1 and Ellen Best Number 3.
Our Juniors proved most fruitful though, with Nerys’s Destiny winning Best Junior Pony, Anna winning Best Primary Junior Number 1, Laura Otter Best Junior Number 2 and Tom winning Best Number 1 in the Junior Division.
Once again WELL DONE to absolutely everyone – that includes the supporters and everyone helping to make the first Inter-Regional tournament in our region a great success.

MIDLAND

Now, more praise coming your way so I hope too many heads aren’t swelling! The Midland tournament was a fantastic one with our Juniors outshining their opposition to win the division. Also, James Davidson unsurprisingly won Best Number 1 after a somewhat speedy, yet accurate performance on Oscar!
Although we didn’t manage to win any other divisions, our standard of play was excellent with the majority of our B-Division team playing up a division and doing an outstanding job of it. A special mention should go out to Nerys who left her mark (literally!) on a number of opponents!!
It was a close call in the A-Division with Kent marginally beating us in a nail-biting game, which was essentially a final. Our second place was well deserved and Penny’s Best Number 3 and Best Horse and Rider Combination were even more so after fantastic performances in every game.
So, keep up the good work and hopefully the Nationals will be equally or even more successful.

PRACTISES

Remember, there’s a practise in preparation for the Nationals on Bank Holiday Monday, which is the 27th of this month at Doncaster. This will be the last one before the Nationals and Martin would like to see everyone there to enable teams to practise together before the real thing, so please try your best to be there.

POLOCROSSE PROGRAMME

Most of you probably know that Ellen’s now a high-flying TV star after being interviewed at the Midland tournament and then going to London for a live studio interview.
If you want to see Ellen’s five minutes of fame, oh, and some polocrosse coverage, go to www.now.com and look under the sport section.
I also understand Ellen will be available for photos and autographs at the Pony Club Championships, the Nationals and also for opening supermarkets, all for the reasonable price of a bottle of cheap wine, to be shared with her agent (me)!!

THANK YOU!!

A big thank you should go out to Alex and Alison Johnson for hosting a brilliant camp during the week preceding the Midland tournament. A wonderful time was had by all and the training was excellent, which was evident through the standards of play at the following tournament.
So once again, THANK YOU Alex and Alison.

Once again GOOD LUCK for the Nationals!!
