Hello everybody and here's the October 2002 newsletter for Pennine, which will probably be the last one I produce. I know it's painful but you must hold back those tears because I'm leaving you in the capable hands of Rachel Johnson once I leave for Canada. I'll still be in charge of the website though so if you have any queries about that just let me know. Anyway, let's get on with the newsletter before I start getting emotional, sniff
CONGRATULATIONS
Once again a number of our members have been selected to represent the country
in the UKPA Squads and they are -
Juniors - Beth Peaker, Anna Robertson and Oliver Beckerlegge.
Ladies' Under-21s - Rachel Johnson, Imogen Johnson and Nerys Cross.
Men's Under-21s - Guy Robertson, James Robertson, Tom Wigglesworth and Edward
Beckerlegge.
Open Ladies' - Lizzie Wright-Roberts.
Open Men's - Martin Brookes and Guy Robertson
Well done to everyone who was chosen and further congratulations to Sam Sics
who is now an accredited umpire and Joel Sics who was selected for Junior Development.
James Davidson and Hannah Watkins, members of our "sister" club the
Northern Lions, also made the grade for the Juniors and Junior Development,
respectively so well done to them too.
WORLD SERIES
The polocrosse World Cup is taking place in Australia next year and the UK has
been invited to take part, so the recent Squads selection is very important.
This competition is set to be the most spectacular polocrosse competition ever
seen with teams coming from all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand
and South Africa to name but a few, and the Senior players named at the Ball
will have the chance to be a part of it all.
Many spectators are expected to make the journey to the polocrosse facility
at Morgan Park in Warwick, Queensland to witness the prestigious event on 28th
April to 4th May. Over 150 specialist horses from across Australia will be used
for the seven days of competing and the UK has the chance to show the rest of
the world what we're capable of so good luck to those going, I'm sure they'll
do us proud.
END-OF-SEASON
BALL
Many of our members headed down to The Hilton near Tewkesbury for this year's
Ball and it's safe to say everyone had a great night. It was a Masquerade Ball
so there were many weird and wonderful masks doing the rounds, although by the
end of the night most of them had done disappearing acts, never to be seen again!!
Everyone scrubbed up pretty well I have to say, looking fantastic in posh dresses
and dinner suits contrasting the usual attire of white jeans and a Pennine shirt!!
It was great to see and as listed above, a number of our members were presented
with certificates for their squad selection and achievements. Hopefully next
year's Ball will see just as many Pennine members receiving awards, if not more.
FUNDRAISING
As you all know, on Sunday the 27th of October we are holding one of our annual
fundraising events, a Team Show Jumping competition. Due Pennine's dependency
on this event to fund the club rather than increasing membership fees it is
important that as many of our members as possible come along to Doncaster to
help out with the numerous tasks which need to be done to ensure the day runs
smoothly. If you have not already volunteered your services please let Ros Cross
know if you are able to help.
WEBSITE
Our very own website is now fully up-and-running as many of you who have visited
it will already know!! Just in case any of you have forgotten the address (which
I hope you haven't!!) here it is again - www.oocities.org/penninepolocrosseclub.
Remember to keep checking it for recent news and reports and if anyone has any
good photos to put on it don't hesitate to send them to me via e-mail.
FOR SALE/WANTED
As usual at this time of year there are a few horses for sale, all of which
can be found on our website and if you've got anything you would like to be
added to the for sale/wanted section, just email me with the details.
QUICK END-OF-SEASON
BALL QUIZ
I've decided to milk this inclusion for all it's worth because it's the only
chance I have of getting my own back on people!! So once again see if you can
solve these mysteries! The first person to contact me with the correct answers
wins a big congratulatory kiss from
Storm the dog!!
By the way, do you see what I've done with these clues? Genius!! Maybe not.
1. Who got his money's Worth out of a bottle of Southern Comfort before the
Ball had even begun?!
2. Which male member of our club took a particular shine to a rather feminine,
pink, feathery mask? Next he'll be shaving his legges!!
3. Which Spanna (a spot of rhyming slang for you there!) fell over on the dance
floor when some funky dance moves went a bit wrong?!
Sorry, I know some of these are pretty bad but I was scraping the barrel a bit!!
