How long have you been playing?
How long have you been a member of the club?
Since the very beginning, I was one of the founding members!
How did you get into polocrosse?
I bought a new pony and heard the girl before me had played polocrosse on him. I wondered what it was, then ended up at a practice and got hooked! I still remember Dave Brookes throwing the ball and me failing to catch it, I think he was a little less grey then – only a little!!
What racquet do you use?
A prehistoric Ginny Herbert thing that I’m always getting ridiculed for!
What's your favourite playing position and why?
I loved playing all positions
What's the person/club you least like to play against and why? Other Pennine teams or anyone whose swings are a bit out of control!
What's the person/club you most like to play against and why?
We always had good, tough matches against the All Blacks
Have you ever represented your country, if so when?
No, unfortunately.
What are the names of your horses?
Don’t have any anymore which is sad, but I did have Falcon (a personal favourite of Martin Brookes!), Sheik and Yatti.
What's the favourite horse of your own? I loved them all but Yatti was fantastic, he was so easy going and never made a fuss but it was a long way down if you came off!br>
What's your favourite horse of somebody else's?
Don’t know, I’m a bit out of touch really! I like riding Tom Wigg’s Chispa though, she’s great!
What's your favourite breed of horse for polocrosse?
I’ll take any old nag!
What's usually your favourite tournament of the season?
Probably the Nationals because it’s always a good turnout and you’re guaranteed to see some excellent polocrosse.
What's your best polocrosse memory?
It’s a while ago but probably winning the 1995 PC Championships!
What's your most memorable game?
Playing Silver Ley in the B-Grade at the 1997 Nationals (a while ago!) and Sheik was going really well, we were literally attacking everyone in the opposition. When we came off someone told me we’d gone really well but with his tail plaited and up in the air Sheik looked like a warthog, I couldn’t stop laughing, poor little Sheik!
What polocrosse awards have you won?
Embarrassingly not much apart from the Pony Club Championships in 1995!!!
What do you like about the club?
Everyone keeps in touch really well and socialises off-season as well as during the season.
What are your polocrosse aims for the future? To get all the club reports in for the UKPA magazine before Christmas!!!!!!! And to maybe one day play again for a bit of fun.
