Family
Trip to African Lion Safari
Saturday, June 21
A family adventure is being planned for this
trip across the border to Canada’s African Lion Safari. Our plan is to leave
from the church parking lot at 6:30 a.m. Every child attending must have a
parent with them as we cannot take a child across the border that isn’t
ours. A full van will assure that we
can share the cost of gas efficiently. The price of admission to the park is
$24 for adults and $19 for children under 13 years of age. Contact Eileen
Modaffari if you are interested as we need to see how many are interested in
attending.
August 22-23 (We need a count by Sunday, June 15!)
Make your
reservations now with Eileen (694-8267) for this all-church camping trip! (We
need to reserve the sites) A team will be organized at a later time to help
plan activities, games, hikes, campfires, sing-alongs and FOOD. Don’t wait,
reserve today!
Fresh
Air Fund
The Fresh Air Fund sends thousands of city children to visit volunteer
host families in 13 Northeastern states, from Virginia to Maine and Canada
every summer, and the families enjoy the experience as much as the children who
visit them. We need you to be part of the equation. Last summer the Penn Yan
area was host to four children. Become a host family today! Call Shelly at
585-259-2959. See the table in the foyer for more information and visit www.freshair.org

Spiritual
Beginnings: Journeys often begin
with excitement, anticipation, and joy. Smiles and laughter herald long-awaited
vacations. Laden with baggage and sundries, we rush out the door to begin our
new adventures. Our spiritual journey often begins this way too. Anticipation
and wonderment accompany our fledgling steps of faith. The joys we find as we
walk with God hurry us along the road to greater love, increased faith, and a
closer relationship with Him.
God’s Coffee
A group of alumni, all highly established in their respective careers,
got together for a visit with their old university professor. The conversation
soon turned to complaints about the endless stress of work and life in general.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went into the kitchen and
soon returned with a large pot of coffee and an eclectic assortment of cups:
porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal – some plain, some expensive, some quite
exquisite. Quietly he told them to help themselves to some fresh coffee.
When each of his former students had a cup of coffee in hand, the old
professor quietly cleared his throat and began to patiently address the small
gathering … “You may have noticed that all of the nicer looking cups were taken
up first, leaving behind the plainer and cheaper ones. While it is only natural
for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is actually the source of
much of your stress-related problems.”
He continued… “Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the
coffee. In fact, the cup merely disguises or dresses up what we drink. What
each of you really wanted was the coffee, not a cup, but you instinctively went
for the best cups…Then you began eyeing each other’s cups…”
“Now, consider this: Life is coffee. Jobs, money, and position in
society are merely cups. They are just tools to shape and contain Life, and the
type of cup we have does not truly define nor change the quality of the Life we
live. Often, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee that
God has provided us… God brews the coffee, but he does not supply the cups.
Enjoy your coffee!”
The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they just make
the best of everything they have… So please remember: Live simply, Love
generously. Care Deeply. Speak Kindly. Leave the Rest to God.
And remember, the richest person is not the one who has the most, but
the one who needs the least.
Thought: I will walk among
you and be your God and you shall be My people. Leviticus 26:12 |
