This ladies group will meet Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 am. Marge Cornell will provide a dessert for the group and will lead devotions. Bring your own sandwich.
Finger Lakes Association Fall Rally!
Sunday, Sept. 13
The next meeting of the FL Association will be held at Canandaigua United Church. Registration begins at 2:30 pm, program at 3 pm, dish-to-pass supper at 5:30 pm. Program theme is “Safety in the Church: Safe Buildings, Safe Relationships.” Rev. Darryl Powell, the Association Christian Education and &Community Witness Committee, and a Church Mutual Ins. representative will present the program using videos from Church Mutual Ins. We would encourage each Church to be represented, along with the PERSON IN CHARGE OF INSURANCE, also DEACONS, TRUSTEES and CHRISTIAN EDUCATION people.

Mexicali, Mexico Mission Trip

There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in taking part in the mission trip this year. We hope to go in late October.
Encouraging One Another!
This is a 6-week small group study that will take place this fall beginning Sept. 23, on Wednesday nights at 7 pm. Led by Cheryl Stewart, it is open to anyone who wants to search the Bible for all the ways God wants us to know he didn’t leave us to face life alone. We’ll think, share, smile, and fellowship as we search the scriptures for all of God’s encouraging “love notes” to us.
To the Two Churches: Pastors and Congregations,
I want to take this opportunity to say what a good experience it has been this summer. Having the jointly held services has been a positive experience – seeing old friends, making new ones, hearing such a delightful variety of music and the different sermons with a variety of viewpoints. Communion Bread
The history of sourdough begins long before miners came to Alaska. Sourdough is actually the oldest form of leavened bread and was used at least as early as ancient Egypt.
The early settlers in the west, especially those adventurers who traveled north to Alaska, relied on sourdough to leaven bread before commercial baking powder and yeast were readily available. According to some accounts every miner’s cabin had a “tin full of fermented dough” hanging over the hot stove. It is rumored that Alaskan miners actually slept with their beloved starters to keep them from freezing in the north county’s frigid climates. Now that’s devotion!!!!
The flag of the State of Alaska consists of eight gold stars, forming the Big Dipper and the North Star, on a dark blue field.
It was designed in 1927 by Benny Benson, a 13-year old Alaska Native residing in Seward, for a contest to create a flag for the then-Alaska Territory. Up to that time, Alaskans had flown only the U.S. flag since the territory was purchased from Russia in 1867. Benny looked to the sky for the symbols he included in his design, and he submitted this description with it:
“The blue field is for the Alaska sky and the forget-me-not, an Alaskan flower. The North Star is for the future of Alaska, the most northerly in the union. The Dipper is for the Great Bear – symbolizing strength.”
