Dear Lord,
Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.
Where there is injury, your pardon. Where there is doubt, true faith in you.
Where there is despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is sadness, let
me bring joy. It is in giving, that we receive. In dying, we are born to
eternal life.

KAREN
HYMN: “STARS FROM THE EAST”
We, the
Karen people, used to live in the wilderness.
We are
oppressed in various ways.
We are
almost eliminated because of devil’s deeds.
We are
turned into displaced people,
And tears
are our only friends.
We are
regarded as wild animals by our foes.
We have
been oppressed and looked down upon by others.
No other
gods are able to give us deliverance.
But when
we accepted Christ as our Savior,
We
received redemption and wisdom free.
We are
developing among others.
We could
share our light to others.
Some say,
“We are the stars from the East.”
Stars for
God.
Stars that
lead others to Christ.
Stars for
God – Stars from the East.
Let us
shine with unceasing light.
The Karens (pronounced Ka-rans)
are an indigenous people to the Southeast Asian countries of Burma Thailand.
The Karens at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica are refugees who have fled the
persecution of Burma’s brutal military regime, regarded as one of the most
repressive dictatorship on earth. The
majority who come to Utica, come from the UN refugee camps along the Thai/Burma
border. Most have been in camps for 10 or more years.
