Something to Think About…
Last week, Erma Mullins, (while covering in the office) received a
phone call from out of state visitors. They were in the area on vacation and
were looking for a service project. Erma invited them to come in to the Food
for the Needy program that was setting up on Thursday.
We had the wonderful opportunity to visit with them and learn more
about them. Meet the Fike Family, from Plymouth, Michigan.
Jim & Jamie Fike and their two daughters, Sophia age 5, and
Cordelia age 3, had the time for vacation. On the advice of friends of theirs
they decided to visit the Finger Lakes area.
Jim is a materials manager for an auto parts supply company and Jamie
is fortunate to be able to be a stay at home mom. In Plymouth they attend Lake
Point Bible Church.
Most people don’t go on vacation and look for work, however the Fikes
“want to serve the Lord with our lives.” They take part in service projects in
their hometown. The Detroit Rescue and area clean up projects. They try to
include their young daughters when possible and appropriate. Jim has been able to help out in New York
City following the 9-11 attacks, and has been to Tampa, Florida and New
Orleans, Louisiana for storm clean-up.
We hope that you enjoyed meeting the Fikes. It certainly was a blessing
to have them here at Penn Yan First Baptist Church.

The PY Council of
Churches is gearing up for the annual Turkey Walk to be held on Sunday, Nov. 2.
The Turkey Walk is a fundraising event to purchase meat for Christmas for the
Needy Baskets. A volunteer is needed to get sheets out to walkers and assist in
securing sponsors. This is a wonderful service project that requires little
effort. Call the church office for more information. Harvest gold colored sheets
are currently available on the table in the foyer.
Margaret Carroll,
sister of Jim Carroll, is in need of someone to bring in meals a couple of
times a week. Contact Shelly Simmons
for more information at 585-526-6675.
Thank You!
I would like to thank
all those who sent your prayers, meals and made calls, and to Rev. Tharp for
his visits. I am doing better. Please continue your prayers. Marlene
Guild
There will be an
Advisory Council Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 23, at
7 p.m. All Boards and
Committees MUST have a representative present with budget figures.
Christmas Project
Under the direction
of Lisa Wood, the Teen & Tween class is making 100 Star Tree Toppers. These
decorations will be sent out to Utica to be given to the Burmese Refugee
families. In addition, we are accepting
small tree decorations that we can also donate to them. Our hope it to be
able to send these out in the mail by the first week in November. The refugee
center is donating 3 ft. Christmas trees.

A pastor said to a precocious six-year
old boy,
“So your mother says your prayers for you each night?
Very commendable.
What does she say?” The little boy
replied,
“Thank God he’s in bed!”
