Invocation
The operative word here is “Go,”
Lord. To make a start, step out in faith, trust the power of your Spirit, move
out of our comfort zone, pick up the phone, mend a relationship, share the Love
of Christ with another person - - these are the acts that demonstrate your
presence in us. Send us forth with vigor and determination. Lead us to the
people you seek to redeem. Let us bear your light. We pray this in the name of
the one who gave himself for us and taught us to pray…

FESTIVAL
OF FAITH
The fun begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, with a chili dinner. Everything is provided – just come and eat! Starting at 7 p.m. Denton Lotz will share a message on “The Clash of Civilizations and the Mission of the Church Today”. Gabriel’s Kids, a musical group from the Penn Yan United Methodist Church under the direction of Jeff Stempien, will provide special music. On Sunday, Oct. 19, Denton will speak again during Sunday worship. Come, join us for part or all of this very special weekend and bring a friend or 2 along. (The Chili dinner is free ~ however, donations will be happily accepted!)
The PY Council of Churches
is gearing up for the annual Turkey Walk to be held on Sunday, Nov. 2. The
Turkey Walk is a fundraising event to purchase meat for Christmas for the Needy
Baskets. A volunteer is needed to get sheets out to walkers and assist in
securing sponsors. This is a wonderful service project that requires little
effort. Call the church office for more information. Harvest gold colored
sheets are currently available on the table in the foyer.
There will be an
Advisory Council Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 23, at
7 p.m. All Boards and
Committees MUST have a representative present with budget figures.
Christmas Project
Under the direction
of Lisa Wood, the Teen & Tween class is making 100 Star Tree Toppers. These
decorations will be sent out to Utica to be given to the Burmese Refugee
families. In addition, we are accepting
small tree decorations that we can also donate to them. Our hope it to be
able to send these out in the mail by the first week in November. The refugee
center is donating 3 ft. Christmas trees to the refugee families, let’s help
them decorate!
Thank you to Worship
Team II for all the time, prayer and work that went into the planning and
preparation of this week worship service.
Thank you for your
service to Penn Yan First Baptist Church.
The members of the
Circle will meet this Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. They will continue to roll and cut
bandages to be sent out. Marge Moulton will bring dessert for the group (bring
your own sandwich) and will share devotions.

GO LIGHT YOUR WORLD
by Chris Rice
There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home.
So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
hold out your
candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world.
Frustrated brother, see how he’s tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister,
She’s been
robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame
So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle and go light your world
Cause we are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let’s raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times
So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world.
Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, go light your world.
