Invocation (in
unison)
Dear Lord, Teach us the meaning of
compassion. Redirect the energy we put into blaming, passing judgment, and
complaining so that the effect of our lives builds up the people around us. As
Jesus looked with love upon the leper, teach us to look with love upon all we
meet. We pray this in the name of the One who lived with a passion toward love…

Man Kind
When they scraped the marl away
Revealing where the caveman lay,
They made a strange discovery
That he was not as men should be.
He had no hands, no lower arm
On either side, and still no harm
Had come to him from claw or horn - -
It was just the way that he’d been born.
Yet at his side were flakes of flint,
Spears and axes new as mint
And sharper than the common ones
Buried these million years of suns.
The theologian thought and said:
“It’s ritual for the ancient dead.”
The anthropologist would decide:
He grew to maturity before he died.
But the poet felt each missing hand
Spoke such as he would understand,
That back when mankind was yet dim
Someone in the tribe loved him.
