The Finger Lakes Association Fall Rally will be held on Sunday, September 16,
2007, at the Reed Corners Federated Church, (Route 247, 2 miles South of Routes
5 & 20) with registration beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The afternoon program will begin at 3:30
p.m. with brief devotions by the Host Pastor, The Rev. Deborah Kamm and a
presentation by Dr. Mustafa Abushagur on “Getting to Know Our Muslim
Neighbors”. Dr. Abushagur is a Professor at RIT and has spoken to many groups
on the beliefs and practices of traditional Islam. He will help us to understand the differences between the
majority of Muslims who live peaceful, faithful lives and the minority who
espouse terrorism.
A Dish-to-Pass Dinner will be held at 5
p.m., with those attending being asked to bring a menu item other than dessert
to share with the group and their own table service. Dessert and beverages will
be provided by the host church. Out of respect for our guest speaker and his
wife, we are requesting that none of the menu items contain pork, which Muslims
do not use. A Business Session will follow the dinner.
All interested persons are invited to
attend the afternoon program and stay for dinner, if they wish. Church
representatives should plan to stay for the evening Business Session.
Also, please keep the World Mission
Conference (with programs for adults and youth) at The United Church in
Canandaigua, Friday-Sunday, October 12-14, 2007 at a cost of $20/day or $60 for
the weekend. Six American Baptist Missionaries will make presentations and be
available for individual conversions. Our Association has voted to make
Association Green Lake Scholarship funds available for those wishing to attend.
Letters of Application for Association Green Lake Scholarships should be sent
to: Shirley Zimmerman, Christian Ed. Chair, 317 North Pleasant Street, Canandaigua,
NY 14424.
CALLING ALL KNITTERS & CROCHETTERS
Looking for a way to use up that left over yarn? I have just
the answer for you. I am collecting 6-inch squares to put together for a quilt.
The plan is to donate the quilt to the Keuka Comfort Care Home from our church.
Any color and pattern you choose is fine. The most important thing to remember
is to keep it as close to a 6-inch square
as
you can. Thanks for joining me in this group mission project to help others
right here in our community. Call Pam Scutt with any questions at 536-2791.
